Enrolled patients up to the age of 14 years are entitled to free consultations including visits related to ACC. Fees for extended consultations, procedures and extra services, such as certificates or equipment, will incur additional costs. Please discuss these with our reception staff or nurse.

Vaccinations for children and adults

Timely and up to date vaccinations are one of the most important steps you can take to ensure your child’s health and wellbeing by protecting them against a number of preventable infectious diseases. In order to protect your own health as well as that of vulnerable individuals such as babies, children and the elderly, it is also important for adults to continue to receive vaccinations, which wane over time. Book in to see one of our compassionate nurses who deliver the child and adult vaccinations.

Travel vaccinations

You can protect yourself from a number of travel illnesses by receiving prophylactic (preventative) vaccinations ahead of time. Travel vaccinations are administered by our dedicated nursing team, however a doctor’s appointment is required to establish which travel vaccinations will offer you the best protection based on your specific needs. Cervical Smears and Screening

Cervical cancer is one of the easiest cancers to prevent so long as any abnormal cell changes in the cervix are identified early on. The National Cervical Screening Programme is aimed at all women aged 20 – 70 who have ever been sexually active and it is recommended that you have a smear every 3 years during this time. We encourage you to contact our Practice to make an appointment with one of our nurses or GPs to book your smear today.

If you are enrolled with our Practice, you will receive reminders for when your next smear is due as well as when you are due for your next breast screen. Our Practice can refer you to the Breast Screening Service.

Men’s Health Checks

As a Community Practice we strongly advocate our male patients to be more proactive about their health. We offer men’s health checks including cardiovascular risk, bowel screening and prostate screening. We encourage you to speak to your GP about men’s health during your routine visit . You can also request a separate annual men’s health checks from the age of 55. Contact us for an appointment.

Minor surgery – lumps, cysts and abscesses

New Zealand has the highest melanoma rate in the world. We encourage early detection.

We do skin cancer surgery including flaps and grafts. We offer mole checks and monitor changes over time. You can request anywhere from full body to individual mole checks.

For cosmetic or therapeutic purposes we offer minor surgery for removal of skin lesions, lumps, cysts and abscesses as well as biopsies. Minor surgeries occur on Fridays.

If you are concerned about any skin lump or change, book an appointment with us today. We also offer minor surgery for ingrown toenails.

ACC consultation and care

Te Atatu South Medical Centre is an ACC accredited Practice. This means we can treat accident related health needs and provide care at a reduced cost to yourself under ACC.

If you are requesting an ACC18 medical, you need to make an appointment to see a doctor.

Free maternity care up to the 1st trimester + 6 week check for newborn babies

The first trimester of your pregnancy care is offered free in our clinic. After this time your care will be led by a midwife or obstetrician.

The 6 week check for newborn babies is also offered free in our clinic.

Diabetes care and education

If you have been diagnosed with diabetes you will receive advice, monitoring and education. Early treatment is available to help prevent worsening of the disease or associated complications.

Annual appointments for a free check-up with the Practice Nurse are available to patients with diabetes which enables us to closely monitor your healthcare.

Telephone prescriptions as per protocol

Many conditions are managed through the use of medium or long-term medications, which require repeat prescriptions. Depending on the medication these prescriptions require a regular review with your doctor. Our policy is that after 6 months you need to see a doctor to get your next prescription to ensure that the prescribed medication and dose is still the most appropriate treatment for you.

For repeats outside of the relevant review periods you are able to request these over the phone. Please note that there is a 24 hour turn around on these.

Work and Income Issues

We are able to support you with any documentation required for Work and Income purposes. Please ensure you bring the appropriate forms and documents for our doctors to complete on the day.

Please note if you require a WINZ medical, you are required to see a doctor.

Sexual Health Checks

Whether you are male or female, it can be a good idea to have a sexual health check any time you have a new partner. We offer sexual health checks and tests. We can also discuss and offer contraceptive options.

Smoking cessation

Our team at Te Atatu South Medical Centre are passionate about helping our patients to become and stay smoke-free. You can expect to be asked about your smoking when you see our nurses and GPs who will offer their support and assistance in helping you to stop smoking.

Palliative Care

We offer continuous care through our Practice including home visits to our palliative patients. We also liaise with the hospital and hospice to ensure that a quality service is provided for our patients.

Physiotherapy

TBI Health provides physiotherapy based at our premises. They have an experienced and friendly physiotherapist on-site and available for appointments on MONDAY, TUESDAY AND THURSDAY from 9 am – 4 pm. Ask your doctor for a referral to the TBI physiotherapist or contact TBI directly on 0800 329 824 to book your appointment.

Workplace health checks

We are able to provide medical checks and provide certification around fitness to work. Please bring any relevant documentation to be completed at the time of your appointment.

Mental Health Checks

Mental health is an important, under-recognised aspect of healthcare. Our team of doctors are trained in mental health checks and can provide support and assistance around mental health issues.

If you or someone you know has a concern about mental health, contact us for an appointment today. We offer free one-on-one counselling sessions (subject to change dependent on counsellor availability) on Saturdays.
